The Robot Improv Circus is a VR installation that serves as a technical probe and human-centered research platform for investigating open-ended, physically-embodied, expressive improvisation between humans and virtual characters using full-body gesture and objects within their environment. Specifically, the research focuses on action selection within open-ended decision spaces, where a single clear goal isn't available to the agent at all times.

The Expressive Machinery Lab (formerly ADAM Lab) explores the intersection between cognition, creativity, and computation through the study of creative human endeavors and by building digital media artifacts that represent our findings. Applications of our findings range from AI-based digital performance to interactive narrative experiences to educational media design and development.
