Real-time monitoring to promote brace wear compliance among scoliosis patients

In order to prevent spinal surgery, scoliosis patients are often prescribed to wear a corrective brace to keep the spine from continuing to develop curvature. While largely successful if followed, many patients do not comply with wearing their brace for the correct amount of time. Our system attempts to improve compliance with patients by providing them with real-time data of their wear time in a meaningful way.

Students in Georgia Tech's interdisciplinary MS in Human-Computer Interaction program do multiple group class projects, and a capstone individual project. Some projects are presented as part of other labs listed here; others are showcased in the MS-HCI Project Lab.

The two-year program spans four schools: Industrial Design; Interactive Computing; Literature, Media and Communications (Digital Media Program); and Psychology. Approximately 50 new students enroll each fall semester.
