As intelligent agents become increasingly advanced and ubiquitous, they are expected to fulfill many of the tasks that humans currently perform. This affordance can be particularly beneficial in the healthcare industry and in resource-constrained environments, where human resources are often stretched thin but essential for attentive, responsive healthcare. The goal of this research is to investigate the role that intelligent agents might play in facilitating these interactions to ensure that patients are empowered to learn about and manage their health, that doctors are not overburdened, and that the communication and coordination between the two remains effective and efficient in the short and long term.
